8.0 and 8.1 conversion
Conversion - 8.0 and 8.1 Conversion to 8.10a
Version 8.1a will operate fine with a functioning v8.1 build as no changes were made to the √bbs.parms or √password file. Back up your system before performing these steps!
The following actions will need to be performed:
- Replacement of 8100 files with new 810a files. Ensure the original 8100 files (or 8000 files, if specified) are removed as BBS operations will still load older versions if they are present. All files are in the PROGRAMS designated area.
- √bbs.init 810a
- √bbs.msgs 810a
- √bbs.xfer 810a
- √bbs.nw1 810a
- √bbs.nw2 810a
- √bbs.ovl 810a
- √bbs.ov2 810a (optional)
- √bbs.ov3 810a
- √sys.edit 810a (replaces √sys.edit 8000)
- √sys.net 810a
- dir tools 810a (replaces dir tools 8000)
- pswd tools 810a (replaces pswd tools 8000)
- xxx msg 810a (v8.1 won’t have this, but look for xxx msg 8000 and replace that instead)
- Add files:
- √bbs.profile (place in PROGRAMS drive)
- √bbs.games 810a (place in AUX3 drive UNLESS you are planning to use the MOD MENU for games)
- Modify:
- √sys.ramove as needed (REU users only)
- Ensure +SETUP has defined:
- AUX1 Disk Parameters to support User's Profile operations
- AUX3 Disk Parameters to support Games if you are not using a previously existing Mod Menu setup from the previous BBS.
- Finally, make a run through the "Prior to Running" section to ensure you capture all the required updates for 8.10a to run smoothly.
